Games In August: Wrestling RPG And Giant Robots Galore

Happy National Day, fellow gamers! Let's make the most of this public holiday (apart from watching the Parade, of course), by diving into some awesome video games. There were some killer titles in July to stash for 9 August, but as usual, there's a bunch of new ones coming out this month that you've gotta save up for!

Baldur’s Gate III
PC

Release date: 3 August

Okay, technically, this game has been out on early access for the past 3 years as the developers Larian Studios continued to polish this working title, but it makes its official release this month. Like with Baldur’s Gate I and II by BioWare, this is a western RPG using the Dungeons & Dragons rule set – which means in the background, a 20-sided die is rolled and added to your stats, to determine the outcomes of combat or dialogue. Based on your actions throughout the game, you will hit one out of 17,000 different ending variations.

WrestleQuest
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 8 August

Be like Dante Chen and climb to the top of wrestling superstardom in this unique turn-based RPG. There’s no other video game where you have to put your foes away with a 1-2-3 count. Plus, you get to team up with legendary wrestlers like Macho Man Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, Jake the Snake Roberts, and others, in your quest to become the World Champ.

Atlas Fallen
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X

Release date: 10 August

Atlas Fallen is an action RPG for any  old-school PS2 God of War fan. Explore multiple open worlds, and take on enemies solo or with a friend, as you discover new abilities and hidden secrets. Combat looks well-polished and beautiful, with shape-shifting weapons and sand-powered special attacks.

Moving Out 2
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 15 August

Here’s another new game to play with your best buds. In Moving Out 2, everyone needs to work together to move boxes and furniture, but watch out for all the crazy distractions that aim to stop you, and the massive open-level mazes. Where got houses so big and insane lah?

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X

Release date: 18 August

Don’t know whose idea this was, but the hantu movie The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been adapted into a multiplayer game. One person plays the role of the murderer, while everyone else needs to run and hide. If you’ve played the survival horror title Dead by Daylight, then you know what to expect.

Armored Core 6
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X

Release date: 25 August

Mecha fans, you’re in for a treat because the Armored Core franchise has finally returned. Build your own giant robot from a variety of parts, and battle enemy machines in a post-apocalyptic world ruled by machinery. Make use of your mech’s melee and ranged capabilities in both air and sea warfare, as you find yourself caught in a struggle over the substance Rubicon with corporations and other factions.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 29 August

This one is for little ones (or those young at heart, like you and me ðŸ˜œ) looking to have a great time dancing on the Nintendo Switch. Your JoyCons double as maracas, and you've gotta shake, dance, and pose to the rhythm. There’s even a mode called the “Love Checker” where you and your partner dance together, and the game will decide if the two of you are compatible. Better hide this game away if you have... or bae has... or both of you have two left feet.

Sea of Stars
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 29 August

There’ve been plenty of 8-bit-esque RPG games recently that have been trying to evoke that classic role-playing nostalgia, but from the demo, Sea of Stars has hit the nail on the head. It manages to recreate that Chrono Trigger vibe in 2023, with new stuff added on to make combat way more fun.
