2022 Pwned: Our Favourite Video Games Of The Year

It seemed like the best video games were waiting for the world to truly reopen. Many AAA titles were released in the first few months of 2022, but we also saw a few surprise must-play gems later this year. We’ve looked through our collection to pick out our most favourite video games of 2022.

Elden Ring
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, S|X

It’s safe to say that future open world games will be inspired by Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s took all the best parts of their previous hits like Dark Souls, and added a dash of world-building from George R.R. Martin to create probably the best fantasy gaming experience. Combat is difficult, but rewarding when you take down a super hard boss. You could play for over a 100 hours and still not complete everything Elden Ring has to offer.

God of War: Ragnarok
PlayStation 4|5

Who would have thought that the God of War games we grew up with would become this emotional epic adventure between father and son? Travel across the nine realms with Kratos and Atreus, encountering Norse gods and monsters. Combat feels good as you can fluidly chain between attacks, but the best part is the narrative. This is a great example of how games today feel like you’re playing a Netflix series.

Horizon: Forbidden West
PlayStation 4|5

The sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn (released 5 years ago!) expands on the beautiful open world of the original, with plenty more dinosaur robots to fight. You play as Alloy as she tries to restore a decimated Earth. Swing, swim, and even fly through the gorgeous wastelands of the American west, then get side-tracked with the massive amount of side missions as you discover new tribes in this beautiful looking title.

Stray
PC, PlayStation 4/5

It is rare that a game comes along with a unique premise. In Stray, you play a cat exploring a futuristic world devoid of human life as it aims to return home. The engaging plot and immersive levels makes this adventure title an absolute gem. It is hard to believe that this is an indie game.

Gran Turismo 7
PlayStation 4/5

Playing this racing game is as close as driving in real life as you can get, without paying for a COE. You can feel how every car handles differently. The graphics are so good, your friends would think they are watching a race on Singtel TV. Car enthusiasts can spend hours exploring the virtual show rooms, buying used cars, and taking their new riders for a photoshoot around the world.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Nintendo Switch

The recent release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has received mixed reviews – great storyline, but plagued with bugs galore. That’s why we love Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It was the first time the franchise was given a brand new action RPG facelift, as players were able to catch Pokémon in real time. Our favourite Pokémon video game to date.

Marvel Snap
PC, iOS, Android

To be good in a mobile card game, first you usually have to grind for hours trying to pull the best cards (or spend $$$), then understand the complicated ruleset to win. Marvel Snap strips card-battling to the bare essentials. It is easy to play, without breaking the bank to try and get good cards. Plus, who wouldn’t want to play a deck with Captain America and Iron Man (which you get from the very start).

Wordle
Online

With the world just coming out of lockdown, Wordle was the one game earlier this year that united everyone from kids to ¬ah mas. Practically everyone was sharing how fast they completed the daily puzzle on social media, and all it took was 5 minutes of your time. Even today, we know a few friends who still log on to complete the Wordle of the day.
