Mums with young children might appreciate a fun-filled bonding session over chocolate cake, sugar flowers and frosting. Everything from dark chocolate ganache, a chocolate tag that says “Happy Mother’s Day”, sprinkles and piping bags of pink and blue buttercream are neatly provided for. All that’s left to do when Mum receives it is gather around the table with her little ones and have fun decorating the confection. This kit is anchored by a rich, moist chocolate cake layered with pink buttercream and fresh strawberries. Cuts between six to eight hearty slices.

At this Japanese steak specialist, the Mother’s Day meal is a true feast that begins with three appetisers – chawanmushi, assorted sashimi and miso soup. What follows is a main course comprising four items: Miyazaki wagyu steak served with fresh wasabi and fried shallots; a premium salad of asparagus, carrots, broccoli, shimeiji and shitake mushrooms, and Chinese cabbage; tempura moriwase; and the restaurant’s signature Fat Rice featuring high-quality Japanese rice cooked in wagyu fat before it is mixed with dried kelp and truffle oil. This indulgent experience culminates with a burnt Basque cheesecake and seasonal sorbet. It’s rather a steal at $99 per person, if you ask us.
